Beach and River Sampling

In January 2000, at the request of the St. Lucie County Commission and the Office of Public Safety, the Health Department implemented routine river and beach sampling. In conjunction with the St. Lucie Department of Environmental Lands, samples are taken at various locations in the North Fork of the St. Lucie River as well as from county beaches. Samples are analyzed for enterococci as well as fecal coliform bacteria. Testing is done at the state certified HBEL, Inc. laboratory in Fort Pierce. The results are updated twice monthly at: http://esetappsdoh.doh.state.fl.us/irm00beachwater/default.aspx Opens in new window.

You can also call the St. Lucie County Health Department at (772) 873-4931 for information on all sites and current results. The ocean beaches program is funded in part through the Florida Healthy Beaches Program. The North Fork sampling is an unfunded public service.
