Environmental Health

Environmental Health deals with those areas of the environment which may adversely affect the public's health. This is done by a form of health risk management accomplished by permitting and monitoring the various public environments throughout the county, and responding tot he environmental health emergencies of a growing community.

Exactly what does Environmental Health Do?

The environmental health professionals of today stem from the original Sanitarians who created the water and sewer systems of Roman times. Today they are the inspectors who monitor and regulate a wide range of programs that reflect people's better understanding of the natural and man-made environmental conditions. The Environmental Health Division has also been involved in special community projects such as the Indian River Surface Water Improvement and Management study and the Childhood Cancer Investigation. Our authority stems from the Legislature through Chapter 381, Florida Statutes.
