Bioterrorism Surveillance

The Epidemiology Department conducts surveillance for suspected bio-terrorism events and educates area physicians on this topic.

The Department also collects and analyzes information to respond to and investigate any sentinel disease, outbreak clusters or emerging diseases, such as SARS and Avian Influenza.

Epidemiology coordinates with Martin and Indian River County Health Departments to design and present clinician symposiums featuring national speakers. In addition, it has compiled a Bio Tap Kit containing concise, pertinent information on bio-terrorism and diseases that might be used in a bio-terrorist event which has been delivered to clinicians in St. Lucie County.
