Hepatitis B In Pregnant Women

The Perinatal Hepatitis B Prevention Program is a collaborative effort with public and private medical providers and birthing facilites providing screening to pregnant women who are Hepatitis B positive. This allows the Health Department to identify, treat and educate contacts and household members.

The program also ensures that infants receive immune globulin, are vaccinated at birth and subsequently complete the hepatitis B vaccine series.

The immunization materials are provided to hospitals free of charge to prevent the spread of Hepatitis B virus from mother to infant. Case management and reporting are overseen by a nurse in the Epidemiology Department.
