HIV/AIDS

Trained staff provides confidential testing, counseling and education for stopping the spread of the disease in St. Lucie County.

A number of Department initiatives are targeted at the HIV/AIDS problem in St. Lucie County to prevent the spread of the disease and to care for those who are infected. A two-year federally funded project to determine gaps in current HIV Primary Medical Care Services and Service Delivery has culminated in the development of a clinical partnership that is a joint venture between the Health Department, the AIDS Research and Treatment Centers of the Treasure Coast, Inc., and Jackson Drugs. This model collaborative was constructed in an effort to enhance the provision of HIV Primary Medical Care Services and provide centralized, comprehensive continuum of care.

This collaboration provides for quality medical and ancillary services. The St. Lucie County Health Department was also awarded and HIV/AIDS Prevention Grant through a jointly sponsored initiative from the Florida Department of Health's Office of Minority Health and the Bureau of HIV/AIDS. This program focuses on HIV prevention activities targeting racial and ethnic minorities, an epidemiologically identified at-risk population in our area.
